Tottenham have been keen on signing Jarell Quansah, player close to joining Bayer Leverkusen

Thomas Frank’s Tottenham are reportedly keen on signing Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah, who is closing in on a move to Bayer Leverkusen.

According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Tottenham are interested in acquiring the services of Jarell Quansah. The North London club are looking to add more quality to their backline, and they are considering pushing for the Liverpool star’s signature amidst interest from Bayer Leverkusen.

Quansah has come up the ranks at the Merseyside club, and he has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2023. While he is quite highly rated by people at Anfield, the 22-year-old has only had limited game time so far.

Arne Slot is a big admirer of the English youth international, but he is still unlikely to have an important role in the team next season, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate expected to be the preferred choice. The Reds are already considering signing another top-level defender this summer to further bolster their backline.

Can Tottenham win the race for Jarell Quansah?

While Quansah’s contract runs until 2029, he is eager to have regular minutes. With that unlikely to happen at Anfield, he is open to a move away from the club. Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen have emerged as two of the leading candidates for his signature.

The North London club have been keeping a close eye on the 22-year-old for some time. Thomas Frank, who has just taken charge at the club, is keen on adding more options to his backline. With Cristian Romero’s future uncertain, Quansah could be a great addition to their squad. They can certainly offer him a more prominent role.

However, Spurs are unlikely to win the race, with Jarell Quansah now closing in on a move to Bayer Leverkusen, according to Graeme Bailey via TBR Football. The two clubs share a great relationship, with Liverpool signing Jeremie Frimpong and striking a deal for Florian Wirtz.

Bayer Leverkusen closing in on Quansah’s signing

Bayer Leverkusen are hoping these deals will allow them to sign the Liverpool defender in return, even though the club are reluctant to sell the 22-year-old. However, they are aware that selling the £40 million-rated academy graduate could actually help their cause.

The funds raised by selling Jarell Quansah will be registered as pure profit, helping them balance their books and stay in check with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

While speaking about Quansah’s future to TBR, Bailey said: “Liverpool didn’t really want to lose Quansah. But he has made it clear he wants to play and, as we revealed previously, discussions took place during the Florian Wirtz talks.

“Quansah was made aware of the interest and has decided he wants the move and talks are now advancing. This becomes interesting for Liverpool, they already wanted a central defender and the need for this only accelerates.”

Leverkusen went ahead and discussed the signing of Quansah during their talk with Liverpool about Wirtz. Those talks are now advancing as the player is keen on parting ways with the Reds in search of regular first-team action. Liverpool have already started looking for a new central defender.

Slot was keen on signing another centre-back this summer, and with Quansah likely to leave, it could certainly become a top priority for the Merseyside club. The Premier League champions want in excess of £40 million, which is considered too high by Spurs, and it will be interesting to see if Leverkusen do meet their demands.
