Manchester United view Moise Kean as backup striker target

Manchester United will reportedly pursue resurgent 25-year-old Italian international Moise Kean if they fail to land one of their top striker targets this summer.

According to a report by Corriere Fiorentina, as relayed by Sport Witness, Moise Kean is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window after the profligate displays of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in the 2024/25 season. So, the resurgent Italian international has emerged as a target.

However, Kean is a backup target for Manchester United, and they will pursue his signature if they fail to land one of their top striker targets. The Fiorentina attacker is also a target for AC Milan and Al-Qadsiyah, with the latter offering him a lucrative contract with €15 million-a-year wages. The player has a release clause worth €52 million in his contract with La Viola.

The Moise Kean renaissance

Moise Kean has resurrected his stuttering career since joining Fiorentina from Juventus last summer. The 25-year-old had faltered for several seasons, failing to make his mark for Everton and Paris Saint-Germain. However, he has not looked back since joining Fiorentino and enjoyed an excellent debut season at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

The resurgent Italian international contributed to 28 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 25 times and providing three assists. Meanwhile, Kean’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Moise Kean is understandable. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker heading into the summer transfer window after Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to score sufficient goals in the 2024/25 season.

So, several candidates, including Hugo Ekitike, have emerged on Manchester United’s radar, with Kean also a viable target. However, the struggling Premier League giants will only launch the offensive to sign the Fiorentina striker if they fail to sign one of their top striker targets.

Ekitike is one of Manchester United’s top targets. However, with the Frenchman attracting interest from several high-profile clubs, the Red Devils may have to turn to Kean. Meanwhile, triggering the release clause of €52 million will not be an issue for Manchester United. However, they will face competition from AC Milan and Al-Qadsiyah for his signature.
