Manchester United are considering Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi an ideal replacement for Andre Onana, who could leave for AS Monaco.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AS Monaco have knocked on Manchester United’s door to learn more about the potential signing of Andre Onana. If the former Inter Milan shot-stopper ends up leaving Manchester, Ruben Amorim’s team will then go after the signature of Marco Carnesecchi.

Onana made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances at Inter and then secured a big-money move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2023. While there were a lot of expectations from the Cameroonian international, he hasn’t been able to live up to them.

Onana to leave United?

He has often been subject to a lot of criticism because of his inconsistency. While his contract at United runs until the summer of 2028, Ruben Amorim’s team are open to sanctioning his departure for the right price.

Amidst uncertainty around his future, AS Monaco have emerged as a potential destination for the 29-year-old. The French giants are looking for a new shot-stopper and consider Onana an ideal fit for their club. Despite his inconsistent performances, they are still willing to bet on him.

United will target Carnesecchi to replace Onana

They have enquired about the former Inter Milan shot-stopper, and if he does end up securing a move away, United have already identified an ideal replacement. The Red Devils have their eyes set on Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper has only gone from strength to strength over the last few years. He was absolutely sensational last season as he kept 18 clean sheets in his 40 outings across competitions. His performances have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs, and United are one of them.

They have already made initial contacts with the player’s camp as they want to be prepared for a situation where Onana ends up leaving. They are yet to knock on Atalanta’s door, who certainly won’t want to lose out on one of their most valuable assets unless there is a significant financial offer on the table.
