Manchester United are in a battle with Atletico Madrid in pursuit of Inter Milan’s unhappy midfielder Davide Frattesi this summer.

According to Fichajes, Davide Frattesi could be on the move from Inter Milan this summer after a solitary season with the Serie A giants. Manchester United are credited with an interest in the Italian international, while Atletico Madrid are ready to battle the Red Devils in the pursuit.

Davide Frattesi is thought to be considering an early exit from Inter Milan despite only signing for them last summer from Sassuolo. The Nerazzurri paid around €31 million to sign the midfielder as per the report, and they would seek at least €35 million or more to let him leave.

Frattesi did play a crucial role in Inter Milan’s run to the Champions League final, with crucial goals in the quarter-finals against Bayern Munich and the winner in the second leg of their semi-final against Barcelona. Despite his obvious qualities, former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi barely started him in games, as the €35 million-rated Italian midfielder only started nine times out of the 28 league clashes he featured in.

While Frattesi is ready to consider his future at San Siro, he could potentially move out of Italy, with Manchester United and Atletico Madrid interested in him. The latter are eager to add fresh energy into their midfield, although they are closing in on signing Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis, which might potentially end their pursuit of Frattesi in one sense.

Manchester United are currently focused on strengthening their frontline, which could see them enter the market for midfielders at a different stage of this transfer window. Nottingham Forest were keen on Frattesi earlier and so were Tottenham, but at the current moment, the Red Devils are seen as an able contender for the Italian.

There are considerable doubts whether Manchester United can rely on Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte to help them control games, especially the big ones. There are also some doubts over Kobbie Mainoo’s future, although the club are still discussing a new contract for the young star.

Douglas Luiz is seen as a target for Manchester United, and now they are looking at Frattesi as a potential option. The price point of the €35 million-rated Italian midfielder may not prove to be an issue for the Red Devils, as they can make this deal happen, as long as they can convince the player to make the move.
