Everton face wait in pursuit of Geny Catamo

David Moyes’ Everton will have to play the waiting game if they want to secure the services of Sporting CP sensation Geny Catamo.

According to Record via SportWitness, Everton are interested in acquiring the services of Geny Catamo this summer, but with Sporting CP owning only 25% of the player’s rights, the Toffees might have to wait before they can attempt to lure him to the club.

Catamo was a part of the Amora youth setup when Sporting CP spotted him. They initially acquired his services on a season-long loan before making the deal permanent in the summer of 2020.

He has since gone from strength to strength and was promoted to Sporting’s first team in the summer of 2023. The 24-year-old winger has established himself as a key figure in the team and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

Last season, the Mozambique international was involved in a total of 48 matches and he ended up contributing towards 12 goals. While he prefers playing on the right flank, he is equally effective on both flanks. Catamo has caught the attention of Everton with his performances.

Everton will have to wait for Catamo

The Toffees have watched him in action on multiple occasions during the 2024/25 season. They are now keen on acquiring his services as David Moyes looks to reinforce his attack. The 24-year-old’s abilities along with his versatility could come in handy at the Merseyside club.

While they are looking to make a move, the Toffees could be forced to play the waiting game as Sporting only won 25% of the player’s rights. The Portuguese giants secured his services on a free transfer and allowed Amora to keep 75% of his future transfer fee.

The 24-year-old has since signed multiple new deals at Sporting and his current contract has a €60 million release clause. However, even if Everton do trigger it, the Liga Portugal outfit will only get 25% of the fee.

They have made multiple attempts to buy Amora out. Their last offer worth €1.5 million was also turned down. Until Sporting manages to buy a large chunk of the player’s rights, they are unlikely to sell him. As a result, Everton are unlikely to secure his services anytime soon.
