Viktor Gyokeres turns down Manchester United move in favour of Arsenal
Viktor Gyokeres does not prefer a switch to Manchester United despite concrete interest, as he favours a move to Arsenal.
As per Record via Sport Witness, Viktor Gyokeres has indicated his current preference as a move to Manchester United is no longer on the cards. The Swedish striker and his agent remain embroiled in a public spat with Sporting CP over broken promises, as he reportedly prefers a switch to Arsenal.
The Viktor Gyokeres saga dominated the headlines in the past week, as the striker and his agent remain embroiled in a public spat with Sporting CP. The issue surrounding the parties pertains to broken promises as the Swede’s camp claimed that the club’s demand of a reported €80 million fee were against what was promised by way of a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ where in the club would accept a €65 million offer.
As the Portuguese media continued to focus on the Gyokeres situation, a rather bizarre claim came about in the last days about how his agent could be in an advantageous position in this drama. The report claimed that should Sporting CP receive an official bid of €60 million or more in fixed fees and should they reject it, the club must pay Gyokeres’ agent 10% of the offer.
Should that story turn out to be true, then Sporting CP are under severe pressure to accept an offer in the region of €60 million. As things stand, the Portuguese side have reportedly rejected a €55 million plus €10 million offer from Arsenal, as the Premier League side are now expected to return with an improved bid, which the report claims could be worth more than €70 million including add-ons.
Arsenal had been pushing of late to get ahead in the chase, as sporting director Andrea Berta seems to be negotiating the Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko deals simultaneously. The Gunners could seemingly prefer either of those names, as the Swede now wants a switch to the Gunners, which has come about as a big blow to one other key suitor.
Viktor Gyokeres snubs Manchester United
The 27-year-old Arsenal striker target has chosen his ideal destination even though a deal between the Giunners and Sporting CP is very much away from a conclusion. Manchester United have been working hard to convince the striker, as the report claims they had been in contact with his agent. However, the message from the Swede’s camp is that the striker would not prefer a move to Old Trafford at the moment.
This would come as a big blow for Manchester United and Ruben Amorim in particular, as the Portuguese boss had wanted to reunite with his former Sporting CP star. Even Fabrizio Romano confirmed the rumours that Gyokeres does not want to make the move to Manchester United. As things stand, the 27-year-old wants Arsenal, although any move will depend on how things pan out between them and Sporting CP.
