Tottenham submit £70 million offer for Bryan Mbeumo
Tottenham have put forward an offer worth £70 million to try and hijack Manchester United’s move for Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United have been working hard to secure Brayn Mbeumo’s signature for some time. While they have the green light from the player, the Red Devils haven’t been able to strike a deal with the Bees. It means the door remains open for new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank to reunite with him.
According to a report from the Mirror, the North London club have submitted an offer worth £70 million as they look to hijack United’s move for Mbeumo. Their offer is worth £65 million plus £5 million in add-ons, which is exactly £10 million more than what the Red Devils are willing to pay.
Mbeumo has been a part of the Brentford setup since 2019. He has slowly gone from strength to strength and of late, he has been their go-to man in the final third. The 25-year-old right-winger was on fire last season as he contributed towards 29 goals (20 goals, 9 assists) in his 42 outings.
United have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Mbeumo
His performances didn’t go unnoticed as multiple top clubs in England are now after his signature. Ruben Amorim identified him as a key target to reinforce his attack at Old Trafford. The Portuguese manager wants him to take charge as the right-sided attacker behind the striker.
Mbeumo prefers moving to Old Trafford and he has already given the green light to the move. United have been working hard to strike a deal with Brentford. They recently submitted their second offer which was worth £60 million (£55m plus £5m in add-ons). The Bees turned it down as they looked to stick to their valuation of £70 million.
Can Spurs hijack the deal?
It has kept the door open for Thomas Frank to try and lure him to North London. Having worked with him since 2019, he can certainly tilt this in favour of Spurs. Tottenham have already submitted a much better offer than that of United as Daniel Levy wants to hijack the deal and deliver him as a statement signing.
Spurs have certainly hampered United’s chances of signing the 25-year-old as they hardly have funds to play with. They are unlikely to put forward an improved offer but they do have an edge when it comes to wages.
The Red Devils are willing to pay him between £150,000-£175,000-a-week and with bonuses it could go up to £200,000-a-week. Levy’s team have to break their wage structure to come anywhere close to that figure.
