Mathys Tel closing in on permanent Tottenham move
Tottenham Hotspur are close to securing the services of Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel on a permanent deal.
According to CF Bayern Insider, Mathys Tel is all set to secure a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur after having spent the second half of last season on loan at the North London club. While Spurs decided against triggering the buy option, they have re-negotiated a bargain fee for the 20-year-old winger.
Tel was struggling for regular minutes at Bayern Munich. He wasn’t an important part of Vincent Kompany’s plans. As a result, they ended up sanctioning a loan move at the start of the year.
Spurs, who were keen on adding more firepower to their attack mid-season, forked out €10 million to secure his services on a temporary basis. They even negotiated a buy option worth around €45 million.
The 20-year-old might not have lit up the world at Tottenham but was quite an effective option for them under Ange Postecoglou. He was involved in a total of 20 matches across competitions and ended up contributing towards four goals.
Spurs have re-negotiated a fee for Tel
His performances certainly impressed people at the club. Despite having parted ways with Postecoglou, Spurs are still keen on signing the young winger. However, they were not willing to fork out €45 million. As a result, they decided against triggering the clause and wanted to re-negotiate with Bayern.
While the German giants would have ideally wanted £30-33 million (€35–38.5m), they don’t really have many options to play with. Bayern need to sanction a few departures to raise funds for any potential signing this summer.
Leroy Sane’s potential departure could free up some space on the wage bill, while money raised from Tel’s departure could help make valuable additions to the squad.
As a result, Bayern are ready to sanction his departure for a rather low fee. Both clubs could soon reach an agreement for the transfer and the final fee is expected to be around €35 million. While the figure falls short of the Bundesliga club’s new range, they will be more than happy to offload some deadwood and raise funds.
