Arsenal perplexed as Manchester City agree to sign Sverre Nypan

The news of Manchester City’s agreement to sign 18-year-old Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan in the summer transfer window has left Arsenal “shocked”.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Sverre Nypan has been the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit by signing a world-class prodigy in the summer transfer window. So, the 18-year-old Rosenborg wonderkid was a target for the North London club.

However, the teenage sensation will join Manchester City in the summer transfer window, leaving Arsenal “shocked”. Nypan was also a target for Aston Villa, and the two Premier League clubs felt they were in contention to sign the youngster. However, the Citizens have beaten them to his signature, and the deal should become official soon.

Sverre Nypan: The rise of another Norwegian sensation

Sverre Nypan is the latest Norwegian talent to rise in prominence. The country has produced several wondrous players in the last few years, with Martin Odegaard and Erling Haaland making their mark for several years. Antonio Nusa has also grabbed the spotlight, and Nypan has followed in his compatriots’ footsteps.

The 18-year-old was a regular for Rosenborg in the 2024/25 season, and he has already turned out 70 times thus far for his club while chipping in with 14 goals and 11 assists. Meanwhile, Nypan’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City.

Premier League adventure on the horizon

Arsenal wanted to sign Sverre Nypan earlier this year before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest is understandable, considering the Gunners have been active in the market to sign highly-rated prospects. So, Nypan was a viable target for Arsenal, and they reportedly presented their project to secure his services.

However, the teenage sensation will not join Arsenal, with recent reports revealing he is on the cusp of switching to Manchester City. The Premier League club’s latest project revolves around a younger age group, with Rayan Cherki, Nicolas Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Vitor Reis moving to the Etihad this year.

So, it is hardly surprising that Manchester City will sign Nypan this summer as they prepare to move on from Kevin De Bruyne and phase out Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva. Meanwhile, while the news has “shocked” Arsenal, they must quickly recalibrate and sign another midfielder in the summer transfer window.
