Manchester United rival Aston Villa, Tottenham in Hayden Hackney chase, player allowed to leave
Manchester United have entered the race for Hayden Hackney, with Aston Villa and Tottenham also in the mix for the Middlesbrough midfielder.
According to Give Me Sport, Hayden Hackney could spur a transfer battle among some of the notable Premier League clubs as Middlesbrough are open to a sale. The England Under-21 international has the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham chasing his signature, with Manchester United now set to enter the race in a big way.
Hayden Hackney made a tremendous impact for Middlesbrough last season, and the midfielder is already being courted by some of the notable clubs. The second-tier side’s inability to secure promotion to the Premier League has led to speculation that they could accept a sizeable bid for the youngster this summer.
Tottenham are credited with an interest, as the North London club view players like Hackney as a solid acquisition to further their young project. They have recently found success in the market for young up-and-coming stars like Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, and they hope to add Hackney to that mix.
Aston Villa are also keen on signing Hayden Hackney, amd they might look to make similar signings like last summer, which could see a few of their current stars leaving and Unai Emery refreshing with similar options. They already have decent relations with Middlesbrough following the business done for Morgan Rogers, as the two parties will have open channels to initiate discussions.
Other clubs like Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest are all mentioned as possible suitors, but the name of Manchester United stands out. The Red Devils are in the market to make changes to their midfield setup, which could see Ruben Amorim approve the arrival of a young midfielder. Manchester United are indeed interested in the midfielder, which could be a problem for the competitors.
Manchester United to sign Hayden Hackney?
Manchester United are set to lose Christian Eriksen as a free agent, and they could be looking to find a replacement of a younger variety. There have been some doubts about their current options like Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte, which could allow someone like Hackney to make an impact on the side.
Whether Hayden Hackney will join them remains the question, although Middlesbrough are ready to sell the midfielder, who has two years left on his £6,500-a-week contract. Meanwhile, Middlesbrough value the midfielder at around £20 million, but they hope he has a fantastic Under-21 Euros with England.
Should the English midfiled prospect perform well in that tournament, it could put the EFL Championship club club in a stronger position to demand more, and even then Hackney could be seen as a valuable addition by those interested clubs.
