Kevin De Bruyne set to join Napoli, medical set for Thursday
Kevin De Bruyne is set to join Napoli on a free transfer, with medical tests already planned for the Manchester City great.
Fabrizio Romano has given the ‘Here We Go’ on Kevin De Bruyne’s move to Napoli. The Belgian international is set to join Antonio Conte’s title-winning side on a free transfer after all parties found a breakthrough in protracted negotiations, and a key issue hindered the deal to a certain degree.
Manchester City chose to let go of Kevin De Bruyne at the end of last season as a unanimous decision from the club prevented a new contract from coming his way. The Belgian playmaker, regarded as a legend at the Etihad, had multiple options, including lucrative proposals from Saudi Arabia and MLS.
De Bruyne has seemingly taken his time in evaluating those offers, as he has chosen to stay in Europe and keep playing in a competitive environment. Barcelona reportedly rejected the chance to sign him as they have other names on their preferred list.
Napoli had opened negotiations with the player’s camp, and against the expectations of some corners, they emerged as the front-runners to sign Kevin De Bruyne, who contributed to 14 goals for Manchester City last season. There were some concerns over his fitness and form, following a large period of injury issues.
Napoli were poised to clinch the deal for the Manchester City legend, and Fabrizio Romano has given the ‘Here We Go’ for the transfer. Medical tests are now planned to be conducted on Thursday, as other formalities will follow ahead of completing the move.
Key issue hindrered Kevin De Bruyne move
As per Sacha Tavolieri, as negotiations reached an advanced stage, there were some concerns in the background as all parties negotiated a key aspect of the deal. The negotiations were stuck on a specific image rights issue, which had led to tensions between all camps. Another update by the Belgian journalist has revealed that he will undergo his medical tests on Thursday.
However, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis agreed to the terms as lawyers finalised all details ahead of finding an agreement for the player. Fans can expect to see the experienced Belgian in a Napoli shirt next season as they aim to retain the Serie A title.
