Joao Pedro ready to play out of position to join Newcastle United

Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Joao Pedro is reportedly ready to change his position and play on the right wing to join Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Joao Pedro is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing a versatile attacker. So, the 23-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion forward has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.

The latest update has boosted Newcastle United’s prospects, as the South American attacker is ready to change his position and play on the right wing to ensure he moves to St. James’ Park in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Brighton & Hove Albion will demand around £60 million to part ways with Pedro.

Joao Pedro and a rocky Brighton & Hove Albion spell

Joao Pedro has been one of the most promising young attackers in the Premier League since joining Brighton & Hove Albion from Watford in July 2023. The 23-year-old has been in England since January 2020 and spent over three years with Watford. However, despite a few fitness woes, he has come leaps and bounds during his spell with Brighton.

The Brazilian international contributed to 17 goals in 2,136 minutes of game time across 30 appearances in all competitions in the 2024/25 season, finding the back of the net ten times and providing seven assists. However, Pedro’s spell with Brighton & Hove Albion will likely end in the summer transfer window, as he is unsettled after a bust-up with Jan Paul van Hecke.

What next?

Widespread reports have linked Joao Pedro with several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United. The Magpies hold a long-standing interest in the Brighton & Hove Albion attacker, having also attempted to secure his services when he was with Watford.

Newcastle United’s continued interest in the South American attacker is understandable, as they did not replace Miguel Almiron when he rejoined Atlanta United earlier this year. So, Pedro has emerged as a viable target, and the young forward is ready to change his position to seal a summer move to the Tyneside outfit.

While Pedro usually reprises a central role, he is willing to play on the right flank to ensure he joins Newcastle United. So, the development has boosted the Tyneside club’s prospects, and it will be interesting to see if they are ready to match Brighton & Hove Albion’s asking price of £60 million to sign the 23-year-old Brazilian international in the summer transfer window.
