Real Madrid set to make final push to sign Martin Zubimendi
Real Madrid will reportedly look to make a final attempt to sign 26-year-old Spanish international Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Martin Zubimendi is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit in the summer transfer window by signing a dynamic midfielder. So, the Real Sociedad mainstay has emerged as a target for Los Blancos.
Widespread reports have suggested that the Spaniard is closing in on joining Arsenal. However, Zubimendi’s latest comments have left his future uncertain, and Real Madrid will make a final attempt to beat the North London club to his signature. However, the Spanish giants hope to sign the Real Sociedad midfielder on an initial loan deal instead of triggering his release clause of €60 million.
Martin Zubimendi has come leaps and bounds since breaking into the first-team squad at Real Sociedad. The 26-year-old was a late bloomer and did not enjoy his senior breakthrough as a teenager. However, the player has not looked back since establishing a foothold at the Reale Arena, becoming a mainstay in the middle of the park for his club and country.
The Spanish international has turned out nearly 250 times thus far for Real Sociedad while chipping in with ten goals and nine assists. Meanwhile, Zubimendi’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Arsenal and Real Madrid are the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal’s interest in Martin Zubimendi is understandable. Jorginho will leave the North London club as a free agent in the summer transfer window, while Thomas Partey has entered the final month of his contract. So, the Gunners need a long-term replacement for either player, with Zubimendi emerging as a viable target. Widespread reports suggested he was set to join Arsenal.
However, Real Madrid will aim to steal a march on Arsenal and beat the Premier League club to the Spaniard’s signature. While Florentino Perez has been unsure about signing Zubimendi, Xabi Alonso has been pushing for a summer deal.
