Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are all set to complete the signing of Olympique Lyon sensation Rayan Cherki.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have an agreement in place to sign Rayan Cherki from Olympique Lyon. With everything in place, Pep Guardiola’s team are expected to complete the move by tomorrow. He is expected to be a part of their Club World Cup squad.

Cherki came up the ranks at Lyon and has been a part of their first-team setup since 2020. The 21-year-old did go through a tough phase in the initial years but he has bounced back in some fashion and has made quite a name for himself.

While he was on the verge of leaving the club last summer, things didn’t go according to plan. Cherki decided to continue at Lyon for another season and extend his contract until 2026. He ended up contributing towards 32 goals in his 44 outings.

His performances further enhanced his reputation and multiple top clubs were keen on signing him this time around. However, it seems Manchester City have won the race for his signature. While Pep Guardiola’s team were prioritising the signing of Florian Wirtz, Bayer Leverkusen turned down the opportunity to join them.

As a result, City were forced to look at other options, Cherki being one of them. The Lyon sensation is quite highly rated and he certainly has the quality to succeed in the Premier League. As a result, the Premier League giants decided to put their foot on the accelerator.

City to complete Cherki signing within 24 hours

Cherki was quite keen on playing under Guardiola, so convincing him wasn’t really a problem. However, City did have to negotiate a price with Lyon and they have finally managed to reach full agreement with the French giants.

Following direct contact between the clubs, City and Lyon have agreed a deal. The 21-year-old is set to sign a five-year deal at his new club. While Romano initially suggested that the Ligue 1 club would receive €35 million as a package, he later clarified that €35 million would be the initial fee with another €6 million in add-ons.

City went all out for his signature as they wanted him to be a part of their Club World Cup campaign. They have succeeded in getting a deal over the line in time. As per Romano, medical tests and contract signing will take place within the next 24 hours as City are ready to unleash him at the global event.
