Brentford eyeing Francesco Farioli as Thomas Frank replacement

Brentford have identified Francesco Farioli as a potential replacement for Tottenham-linked Thomas Frank with movement expected in the coming period.

According to TEAMtalk, Brentford have identified Francesco Farioli as a potential choice to replace Thomas Frank this summer. The Dane is heavily linked with a switch to Tottenham, while the former Ajax boss is seen as a good candidate to take the West London club’s project further.

Brentford are bracing for significant changes to the team in the summer, as there is a big possibility for them to lose a few key stars as well as their manager. Thomas Frank has been at the helm since 2018 and has helped establish the Bees as a stable mid-table Premier League side.

His terrific work at the London side has attracted interest from top clubs, as Tottenham are closing in on Frank as their new manager to replace Ange Postecoglou. The North Londoners decided it was best to sack the Australian despite him ending the club’s well-publicised 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League.

However, the Tottenham board did not feel Postecoglou’s league form warranted a continuation following 22 losses in the Premier League last season. In their pursuit of Frank, Spurs have received a big boost as Brentford have identified a potential replacement for the Dane.

Francesco Farioli is the name that Brentford are eager to lure in to replace Frank. The 36-year-old Italian was incidentally seen as one of the top targets for Tottenham, although his inexperience in the game, as well as Frank’s rich knowledge of the Premier League, swayed their decision in favour of the Brentford boss.

Is Francesco Farioli the right choice for Brentford?

The Bees have not made any approach for Farioli, although his ideas and style could be seen favourable for Brentford to take their project forward. The 36-year-old is reportedly keen to talk with Brentford and understand their plans for the team.

While Farioli impressed during his spells at OGC Nice and Ajax, the way his season ended with the latter has caused a few concerns. Francesco Farioli and Ajax were on course to win the Eredivisie but squandered a nine-point lead with five games to play to hand PSV Eindhoven the title.
