Vasco da Gama hope to seal permanent deal for Philippe Coutinho

Aston Villa midfielder Philippe Coutinho is reportedly expected to seal a move away from West Midlands club in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by O Tempo, Brazilian club Vasco da Gama are hopeful of signing Philippe Coutinho permanently in the summer transfer window. Aston Villa paid €20 million to sign the Brazilian playmaker from Barcelona in 2022, but the transfer has not worked out for them.

Coutinho has failed to hold down or regular starting spot at the club, and he is no longer in their plans. The player will look to sort out his long-term future and focus on his football once again. Joining the Brazilian club could be ideal for him. Remaining in his homeland would allow him to enjoy his football in his comfort zone.

The 32-year-old was regarded as a world-class player a few years ago when he was at Liverpool. However, Coutinho struggled at Barcelona, and he was eventually sent out on loan to Bayern Munich. He failed to establish himself as a key player at the German club.

The move to Aston Villa did not work out for him either. This is the right time for the Brazilian to move back to his homeland. The Villans will unlikely demand a premium for the out-of-favour attacker’s signature either.

It remains to be seen whether Vasco da Gama can secure an agreement with Aston Villa quickly. The West Midlands club will look to get rid of their fringe players, and they are unlikely to stand in his way this summer. They will look to recoup a reasonable amount of money for the player and let him leave.

Coutinho will look to get his career back on track

It will be interesting to see if Coutinho can regain his form and confidence in the coming months. There is no doubt that he has the qualities to compete at the highest level, and he could be an asset for Vasco da Gama if he manages to get back to his best.

The Brazilian playmaker will be disappointed with the way his career has panned out. The experienced attacker was expected to develop into one of the best players in the world at one point, but he has not been able to fulfil his potential.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa could use more creativity in the final third, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to bring in an attacking midfielder or a wide player during the summer transfer window.
