Rasmus Hojlund drops update on Manchester United future
Rasmus Hojlund insisted he is ‘fully dedicated to the project’ following comments that hinted at his preference to stay at Manchester United.
Manchester United have been moving with purpose in the transfer market, as they are eager to strengthen their squad in the right areas. Ruben Amorim is seemingly prioritising the attacking setup as the main zone where he needs key additions, as they have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
There are heavy links to Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, with the Cameroonian winger seemingly choosing Manchester United as his preferred destination over other suitors, including Arsenal and Newcastle United. The club are also keen on a new striker, as they have already failed with one key target in Liam Delap, who has chosen to join Chelsea instead.
The search for a new striker remains ongoing, as Manchester United are heavily interested in Viktor Gyokeres. The idea behind chasing the Swede might have stemmed from Amorim, who had a huge hand in developing the Sporting CP star into a world-class goalscorer during their time together with the Lisbon club.
There are some other names to consider, and if the club ends up landing a new striker, it might mean the end of Rasmus Hojlund’s time at Old Trafford. The Dane has been underperforming since his big-money arrival from Atalanta two summers ago, as Amorim is ready to sell the attacker in this window.
There have been big links with a return to Italy, with another report stating Hojlund had green-lit the idea of playing again in Serie A. However, his comments that appeared on Sky Sports indicated that he would like to continue at Manchester United and is ‘fully dedicated to the project’.
Hojlund said, “I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United. I’m looking forward to a little summer break, and then I’m fully dedicated to the project.”
Incidentally, Hojlund only has a contract until 2028 with the option of another year. His suggestion of having a deal until 2030 could be taken as an honest mistake, although there are big doubts about his intention to stay, which may not suit the club.
Inter Milan are the club heavily interested in signing him, as they are prepared to propose a loan deal with a buy-obligation. The Manchester United underperformer has been terrible this season, and to succeed, Amorim would need a prolific presence up front.
Hojlund might not have a problem with staying at the club, although Amorim is being tasked to intricately plan things, including sales. Hence, there’s a big likelihood of the manager wanting to get rid of the Manchester United underperformer and get a new striker in his place.
