Arsenal make approach for Kepa Arrizabalaga

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have approached Chelsea as they look to sign their outcast Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.

According to a report from TBR, Arsenal are on the lookout for a new back-up goalkeeper and they have their eyes set on Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Gunners have knocked on the doors of Chelsea as they look to sign the Spanish international in the coming weeks.

Arrizabalaga has been a part of the Chelsea setup since 2018. While he was an integral part of their first team in the initial years, things have only gone downhill for him post that. The 30-year-old hasn’t been a part of their first team over the last two seasons.

He spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Real Madrid before joining Bournemouth for the 2024/25 season. The Spanish international certainly put in quite a few impressive performances while playing for the Cherries and helped them secure a ninth-placed finish.

Despite his performances, they decided against signing him permanently, with Neto back at the club and Mark Travers and Alex Paulsen already in the ranks. With Neto returning to his parent club following a loan spell at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta’s side are now actively searching for a new backup goalkeeper.

Arsenal making moves to sign Arrizabalaga

They want someone who is capable enough to cover for David Raya and can even challenge him for a place in the XI. While their priority target for Joan Garcia, they have failed to sign him. He has opted to join Barcelona instead, as a result, the Gunners are looking at Arrizabalaga.

They consider him an ideal fit for the role and have already held talks with Chelsea to try and sign him in the coming weeks. The 30-year-old has no future at Stamford Bridge and with him entering the final year of his deal, they do want to cash in on him.

The Spanish goalkeeper is willing to join Arsenal and compete with Raya and he is even willing to take a pay cut to make it happen. While there is interest in his services from Spain as well as the Middle East, the Chelsea shot-stopper is pushing to join the London rivals.
