Manchester United interested in Mile Svilar
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are interested in acquiring the services of AS Roma shot-stopper Mile Svilar.
According to a report from Siamo la Roma, Manchester United are plotting a raid on AS Roma for the services of Mile Svilar. The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper and they could push for the Serbian international as contract renewal talks with the Italian club haven’t gone according to plan.
Svilar made a name for himself at Benfica before joining Roma in the summer of 2022. He has only gone from strength to strength since and is an undisputed starter at the Serie A club.
While Roma could only manage to secure a Europa League spot with a fifth-placed finish, they were amongst the best defensive sides in the league and Svilar certainly played a big part in it. In his 38 league outings, he only conceded 35 goals and kept a clean sheet in 16 of those fixtures.
The 25-year-old is a key figure in the team and with only two years left in his deal, Roma want to renew his contract and secure his long-term future. Their sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi, has been working hard for weeks to find an agreement.
Despite all his efforts, things haven’t really gone as planned. Nothing has come of those renewal talks and they seem to have reached a standstill. With negotiations over a new deal getting complicated, interested clubs are closely watching his situation.
United could capitalise on Svilar’s contract situation
Manchester United are one of the clubs that are keen on his signature and they are monitoring his situation at Roma. The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new shot-stopper as Ruben Amorim is not entirely pleased with Andre Onana’s performances.
They are already working hard to sanction the departure of the former Inter Milan goalkeeper. The Portuguese manager wants a more reliable option in goal and they certainly admire Svilar a lot. They consider the 25-year-old an ideal fit for their project and are plotting a raid on the Serie A club.
If Roma fail to renew his deal, they could certainly consider sanctioning his departure for the right price. While United are keen on his signature, they could face competition from other top clubs.
