Liverpool make approach for Rafael Leao

Liverpool are reportedly exploring a move for Rafael Leao as a replacement for one of their current left-wingers ahead of the summer.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Rafael Leao has emerged as a player of interest for Liverpool ahead of the summer. The Portuguese winger has been attracting big attention from some of the Premier League sides, as the Merseysiders could view him as a potential replacement for one of their current left-wingers.

AC Milan are going through a transition phase, as they could make plenty of high-profile changes to their squad. The likes of Tijjani Reijnders and Theo Hernandez are already linked with moves away, while Rafael Leao could be one of their biggest sales of the summer.

Milan are currently not entertaining the prospect of selling Leao, who has had another productive season with 25 goals and assists. Yet, they are open to selling him for a price point of €130 million, which has already caused a stir with some of his suitors.

Arsenal and Chelsea are seen as interested parties for Leao, while Liverpool are the latest to enter the equation for the 25 G/A Serie A star. Arne Slot’s side have been making some bold moves in the transfer market following the capture of Jeremie Frimpong and the fact that they are closing in on Florian Wirtz.

A left winger could be on the cards, as one of Luis Diaz or Cody Gakpo could depart for sizeable offers. The former has big interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, as the Colombian winger seems more likely to leave, as Arne Slot wants to keep hold of Gakpo.

Will Liverpool spend big on Rafael Leao?

Liverpool are already planning transfers that are set to cost the club close to the €200 million mark, and it does not include Leao. Hence, there will be some significant doubts over their ability to spend a huge chunk on the Portuguese attacker to bolster their left wing.

Yet, there’s the idea that a potential sale involving one of Diaz or Gakpo could fetch a significant sum, which could be used in the purchase of Leao. It will take a monumental effort to convince Milan to reduce the price, as well as make a sizeable financial offer for the winger that will tempt him to make the move.
