Borussia Dortmund closing in on signing Jobe Bellingham
Borussia Dortmund are on the verge of beating Manchester United and Tottenham to the signature of Sunderland sensation Jobe Bellingham.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Borussia Dortmund are close to securing the services of Jobe Bellingham. The German giants have been working on a potential transfer for some time and they are set to beat Premier League giants Manchester United and Tottenham in the race to his signature.
Bellingham, who came up the ranks at Birmingham, hasn’t looked back since joining Sunderland in the summer of 2023. He has only gone from strength to strength and has been an integral part of their plans.
The 19-year-old was involved in a total of 43 matches last season and he ended up contributing towards seven goals. He has played a massive part in their promotion to the English top flight.
While his contract with the Black Cats runs until the summer of 2028 and they are keen on having him around for at least another season, Sunderland are aware that they will struggle to keep hold of the teenager amidst interest from some of the biggest clubs.
Premier League giants want Bellingham
They have made efforts to retain him and are willing to offer him a new deal but things haven’t gone according to plan for them. Manchester United and Tottenham are two Premier League giants who want to sign the teenage midfield sensation and have scouted him on quite a few occasions.
Spurs have made a significant change to their transfer policy in recent years. They now target young players with massive potential and Bellingham is certainly an ideal fit for their project. They seek depth in the centre of the park and he could certainly help their cause.
Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim also wants to freshen things up in midfield and the club wants to invest in younger players as they look to build a new project. They consider Bellingham an ideal fit not only because of his massive potential but also because of his ability to feature in any role.
Dortmund set to win the race
But both English giants are behind Dortmund, who have a strong connection with the Bellingham family thanks to his brother Jude’s successful stint at the club. It is a major factor in the teenager’s decision, who is aware of how good the German club are at nurturing young players. It could be an ideal destination for him to take the next step in his career.
Dortmund have taken a proactive approach and have managed to position themselves as front-runners. The negotiations are set to advance in the near future as the German club’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl looks to finalise the transfer.
The final fee of a potential deal could be around €40 million. While it is a high price tag for a teenager, given his massive potential it could prove to be a bargain in the future.
