Manchester United, Manchester City express interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma

Manchester United and Manchester City are both interested in the services of PSG shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Manchester United and Manchester City have both expressed interest in signing Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian international’s future at PSG has become a massive talking point as contract renewal negotiations haven’t gone according to plan. He could look for a move away and multiple top clubs are already keeping a close eye on his situation.

Donnarumma came up the ranks at AC Milan and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining the French giants on a free transfer in the summer of 2021. The 26-year-old has had a lot of ups and downs since moving to France but he has certainly returned to his best this season.

Having won the Champions League last night, PSG have managed to secure the treble and Donnarumma has certainly played a big part in it. But his future is now up in the air with him entering the final year of his contract at the club.

While PSG have been working hard to renew his contract, they haven’t found any success yet. The French giants are hesitant to meet the player’s wage demands. The Italian wants a new salary worth €10 million per year, while UCL winners are only willing to offer him €6 million per year.

There is certainly a massive difference between both parties, as a result, negotiations over a potential extension have reached a standstill. It has opened the door for interested clubs to push for his signature this summer.

Manchester giants could battle for Donnarumma

Manchester United and Manchester City are two English clubs that are interested in the 26-year-old. The Red Devils are keeping tabs on his situation as they could be in the market for a new goalkeeper. Ruben Amorim isn’t really pleased with Andre Onana’s performances.

They could look to sanction his departure and could then focus on signing the former AC Milan star. It could certainly bolster their backline but they will face competition from rivals Manchester City who have also shown interest in Donnarumma.

While City are interested in his services, they will first have to offload Ederson before making a move for the Italian. The Brazilian international is open to a new challenge and there is a lot of interest in him from the Middle East. However, City want €30 million for the 31-year-old which certainly complicates things.

If Ederson ends up leaving, City could step up their pursuit of Donnarumma. While he is undoubtedly a top-quality goalkeeper, he doesn’t appear to be an ideal fit for Pep Guardiola’s system. As a result, it will be interesting to see whether they follow through with their interest, especially with Manchester United also in the race.
