Manchester United lead race to sign Christian Kofane

Manchester United and Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 18-year-old Cameroonian striker Christian Kofane from Albacete this summer.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Sport Witness, Christian Kofane is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Albacete wonderkid is also a target for Atletico Madrid. However, the Red Devils are in the pole position to sign the 18-year-old striker prodigy in the summer transfer window.

Christian Kofane is the latest highly-rated African prospect to rise in prominence. A native of Douala, the teenage sensation spent most of his formative years in Cameroon before moving to Spain by joining Albacate’s academy last year. Since then, the youngster has come leaps and bounds at the Spanish club.

The 18-year-old began his spell with Albacete by turning out for the Spanish club’s under-19 side before breaking into the first-team squad. Kofane made 19 La Liga 2 appearances in the 2024/25 season, chipping in with eight goals and one assist. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe.

Recent reports have linked the Cameroonian attacking sensation with Chelsea, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Aston Villa. The youngster is also a target for Atletico Madrid. However, Manchester United will aim to beat the competition to the Albacete striker, with the player having a meagre release clause of €5 million.

Manchester United’s interest in Christian Kofane is understandable. The Red Devils have focused on youth-driven signings in the last few years, with Christopher Vivell, in particular, clinching some eye-catching deals.
