Borussia Dortmund rival Arsenal in Juan Gimenez chase

Borussia Dortmund have joined Arsenal in the race for Argentine teenage defender Juan Gimenez, who could be on the move.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Borussia Dortmund have entered the race for Rosario Central’s teenage defender Juan Gimenez. The young Argentinian has caught the attention of many other clubs, most notably Arsenal.

European and English clubs continue to look at the South American markets for bright and emerging talents. Of late some players have indeed arrived, while many are constantly linked such as Franco Mastantuono, and in this case Juan Gimenez.

The latter plays for Rosario Central in Argentina and has been highly rated for his performances. His current contract expires at the end of the year, which does make him an attractive target compared to other young talents who might carry a heavy price tag.

In Gimenez’s case, some notable clubs are chasing his signature, with Manchester United credited with an interest recently. However, Florian Plettenberg had insisted on Arsenal being one of them, as Mikel Arteta is looking to add a young defender in his ranks ahead of the new season.

Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera is seen as a target, and now Gimenez could be a name for them to consider. The 19-year-old Argentine defensive sensation can also play in midfield, which will probably give Arteta more of a chance to guage at his talents and develop him in the right way as well as having a good defensive prospect as backup to their existing stars.

Borussia Dortmund are the latest to enter the race for Gimenez and are now ready to rival Arsenal in the chase for the 19-year-old Argentine defensive sensation. They can certainly offer a better pathway to the first team in the summer.

Any move will depend on what Rosario Central demands for the defender, who will have six months remaining on his deal. Arsenal could put up a fight in the chase for the centre-back, which could ensure a tasty battle in the summer, as Gimenez seems destined to make a move out of Argentina and play on this side of the Atlantic.
