Predicted Liverpool lineup against Arsenal: Bradley in for Alexander-Arnold; Diaz up front
Conor Bradley and Luis Diaz will return to the Liverpool starting lineup, while Trent Alexander-Arnold will drop to the bench against Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday.
Liverpool will aim to return to winning ways when they welcome Arsenal to Anfield on Sunday evening. Arne Slot has greeted a positive update on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Conor Bradley is fit and available after recovering from his recent issues. So, Joe Gomez is the only player on the sidelines, with the English international yet to recover from a long-term hamstring injury, which will likely keep him unavailable for the rest of the 2024/25 season.
Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Slot confirmed a player for the starting lineup. The Dutch tactician insisted that it was the case to help this youngster build up his minutes, although it might also have something to do with an impending departure.
The Liverpool manager said, “Team selection is as it’s been last week, it’s going to be the same thought process that goes through my mind for the Sunday game. If Conor would have been available for Chelsea he would have started already against Chelsea. But he wasn’t. So there’s a fair chance that he will start on Sunday.”
“I think there are a lot of influences on the decisions I make and one of them is also definitely losing a game of football. So, I’m not looking forward to losing all four of them. But there are more things going into a lineup than only losing or only rotating, giving the chance to other players. We will wait and see how we play on Sunday.”
Slot also provided a fitness update on Gomez. The Liverpool manager said, “He is becoming closer and closer [to returning]. He is joining training sessions at the moment, he has been out for a long time. The last part of rehab is the hardest. I cannot guarantee it [that Gomez will feature before the end of the season] but he is getting closer and closer.”
Alisson Becker will take his spot between the sticks, with the newly crowned Premier League champions lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Arsenal on Sunday. The backline should feature Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Andrew Robertson.
As for the midfield unit, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch should pair up in the double pivot, with Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo dropping to the bench. Meanwhile, Dominik Szboszlai will replace Harvey Elliott as the no. 10, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah being the two wide attackers. Finally, Luis Diaz will lead the line for the home side against Arsenal.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Bradley; Konate, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Diaz
