Daniel Levy puts foot down in Cristian Romero saga
Daniel Levy’s Tottenham to stand firm on their €70 million asking price for Cristian Romero amidst interest from Atletico Madrid.
According to Marca via SportWitness, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made his stance clear on Cristian Romero’s future, setting firm conditions amid growing interest in his services. Atletico Madrid seem quite keen on signing him but it seems negotiation with Levy won’t be that straightforward.
Romero has only gone from strength to strength since joining Tottenham from Atalanta. He has established himself as one of the mainstays in the English club and has done wonders for Argentina on the global stage.
While the 27-year-old has struggled with injuries this season, he still remains a key figure in their team. He still has over two years left on his deal with the North London club but his future has become a big talking point.
Romero seems interested in making a move to Spain and Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are very keen on signing him. The Argentine manager is a massive admirer of the defender and wants to add him to his squad to help them take the next step.
Meanwhile, the Tottenham defender appears open to the move, as it would give him a chance to compete for major honours and reunite with several of his international teammates.
Daniel Levy to make things difficult for Atletico
Spurs value him at around €70 million but Atletico have been thinking about putting forward a much lower offer. They have been positive about getting a deal over the line as they believe Romero’s desire could help their cause. But the Spanish giants have received a massive blow as Daniel Levy has finally put his foot down on the saga.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear that the club won’t entertain any talks over the defender’s exit until their Europa League campaign concludes. More importantly, they are going to stand firm on their asking price of around €70 million.
Atletico will have to put in considerable effort to secure a deal for the Argentine defender, including freeing up a non-EU spot in their squad, something that could see Samuel Lino make way.
