Barcelona formulate offer to re-sign Alejandro Grimaldo

Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old Spanish international Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth €25 million in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alejandro Grimaldo is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a left-back and have set their sights on the Bayer Leverkusen wide player. They are ready to cough up €25 million to sign the Spanish international from the Bundesliga champions in the summer transfer window.

Alejandro Grimaldo and his Bayer Leverkusen story

Alejandro Grimaldo has gone from strength to strength since joining Bayer Leverkusen in a Bosman move in July 2023 after running down his contract with SL Benfica. The Spaniard has taken creative charge for Die Werkself from the left flank, with his output holding the key in the final third.

While Bayer Leverkusen’s 2024/25 campaign has been underwhelming, Grimaldo has remained a productive wing-back for the Bundesliga holders. The 29-year-old wide player has contributed to 16 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net four times and providing 12 assists.

Meanwhile, Grimaldo’s exploits for Bayer Leverkusen have not gone unnoticed, helping him establish a foothold in his national squad. In addition, the Spanish international has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, with Barcelona among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Barcelona return on the horizon?

Barcelona’s interest in Alejandro Grimaldo is understandable. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window, even though Alejandro Balde has been exceptional for the club. However, Hansi Flick wants two top-class options for every position, compelling Barcelona to dip into the market for a left-back.

So, Grimaldo has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, with the Blaugrana preparing a bid to re-sign the Spaniard. The Catalan giants are ready to fork out €25 million to sign the Bayer Leverkusen wing-back in the summer transfer window.

However, it is unclear how much the Bundesliga champions want to part ways with the 29-year-old Spanish international in the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can succeed with a bid worth €25 million in the coming months.
