Predicted Barcelona lineup against Inter Milan: Szczesny in goal; Lewandowski still out

Wojciech Szczesny will return between the sticks when Barcelona and Inter Milan face off in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg on Wednesday.

Barcelona will aim to inch closer to the UEFA Champions League final when they welcome Inter Milan to Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys for the semi-final first leg on Wednesday night. Hansi Flick has no new injury concerns hampering his preparations ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Robert Lewandowski remains the most notable absentee due to a hamstring injury. In addition, Alejandro Balde is unavailable, with the Spanish international and the veteran Polish striker accompanying Marc Casado and Marc Bernal on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Flick provided a fitness update on his squad and addressed questions about possible rotations on Wednesday. The German tactician said, “I have seen that the players are fine. The way the game went also has an influence, but we are already focused on Inter.”

The Barcelona manager continued, “We have the chance to reach the Champions League final. It’s the most important competition. We are in a privileged position. The training session went well and we talked about what we can do better than against Madrid. We’ll see tomorrow. We still have one day and we will see how the players recover. When you see Inter you realise that they have had fewer hours to prepare.”

Flick also confirmed the starting goalkeeper for Wednesday’s game, considering Marc-Andre ter Stegen is fit and available. He said, “Tek will play in the Champions League and maybe we change in La Liga. We will see that later, but Szczesny will play in the Champions League.”

Wojciech Szczesny will retain his spot between the sticks, with Barcelona lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Inter Milan on Wednesday. The backline should feature Jules Kounde, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, and Gerard Martin, with the latter deputising for Balde.

As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Frenkie de Jong and Pedri in the double pivot. Dani Olmo will reprise the no. 10 role, with Gavi and Fermin Lopez being backup options on the bench. Finally, Ferran Torres will deputise for Robert Lewandowski as the central striker, with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha being the two wide attackers.

Predicted Barcelona XI: Szczesny; Kounde, Cubarsi, Martinez, Martin; De Jong, Pedri; Yamal, Olmo, Raphinha; Torres
