Chelsea front-runners to sign Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa
Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are reportedly in the pole position to sign 29-year-old Cameroonian midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa from Serie A club Napoli.
According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit in the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Napoli midfielder. They are the favourites to sign the Cameroonian international from the Serie A club, with AS Monaco also keen on landing him.
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and his Napoli exploits
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Napoli from Fulham. The Partenopei signed the Yaounde native on an initial loan deal in August 2021 before completing a permanent move 12 months later.
The 29-year-old has come leaps and bounds during his spell with Napoli, playing his part as the Serie A giants have become a force to be reckoned with in the Italian top flight. While he has not been at his best this season, Anguissa has still managed to contribute to ten goals in 30 Serie A matches thus far, finding the back of the net six times and providing four assists.
However, Anguissa’s long-term future at the Serie A club is uncertain after entering the final few months of his contract. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. A return to West London might be on the cards, with Chelsea among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
West London return on the horizon?
Chelsea’s interest in Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa makes sense. While Enzo Maresca has several top-notch midfielders in his squad, Romeo Lavia has struggled with fitness issues since arriving from Southampton. In addition, Carney Chukwuemeka, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Andrey Santos might seal permanent moves away from Stamford Bridge this summer.
So, several midfielders, including Nico Paz, have emerged on Chelsea’s radar, with Anguissa also a viable target. While the Blues face stiff competition from AS Monaco for the Napoli midfielder, they are the front-runners to secure his services in the summer transfer window.
Anguissa’s impending free-agent status means he is an appealing target for Chelsea and his other suitors. With the 29-year-old Cameroonian international’s family ready to leave Naples, it will be interesting to see if he returns to West London. Speaking of West London, he might feel he has unfinished business in the Premier League after an underwhelming spell with Fulham.
