Jean-Philippe Mateta in talks with Manchester United; Everton, West Ham United also keen
Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has reportedly held talks with Manchester United over a possible move in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Jean-Philippe Mateta is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit in the summer transfer window and have held talks with the Crystal Palace striker. Meanwhile, Everton and West Ham United are also keen on signing the French centre-forward.
The rise and rise of Jean-Philippe Mateta
Jean-Philippe Mateta has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League in the last 15 months. While the Frenchman showed flashes of brilliance after joining Crystal Palace from FSV Mainz 05, he could not fulfull his potential until Oliver Glasner took over at the South London club.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed an exceptional 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 20 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 17 times and providing three assists. Meanwhile, Mateta’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, alerting several well-known clubs, including Everton, West Ham United, and Manchester United.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Everton will dip into the market for a striker in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s long-term future. The English centre-forward will likely leave the Merseyside club as a free agent, forcing them to scour the market for a striker. So, the French forward has emerged as a viable target for Everton.
Meanwhile, West Ham United’s interest in Jean-Philippe Mateta makes sense. The Hammers have signed two strikers in the last two transfer windows. However, while Niclas Fullkrug has struggled with fitness issues, Evan Ferguson has failed to make his mark since arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion. So, Mateta is an option worth considering for West Ham, with the East London club keen on signing the Olympics 2024 silver medalist.
As for Manchester United, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have not been prolific enough in the final third. So, the Red Devils are combing the market for a striker, with Mateta emerging as a viable target. The two parties have already held talks over a possible move in the summer transfer window.
Mateta’s talks with Manchester United signal the Premier League club’s intention to quickly seal a summer move. So, with the 27-year-old Frenchman’s talks with Crystal Palace over a new contract stalling, it will not be surprising to see him arriving at Old Trafford in the coming months.
