Real Madrid abandon Dean Huijsen chase; Chelsea, Liverpool front-runners
Real Madrid have pulled out of the race to sign Dean Huijsen, paving the way for Chelsea and Liverpool to battle it out for his signature.
According to Fabrizio Romano via Caught Offside, Dean Huijsen is all set to part ways with Bournemouth this summer but he is increasingly unlikely to join Real Madrid. The Spanish centre-back is expected to continue in England with Chelsea and Liverpool both keen on his signature.
Romano’s take on Huijsen’s future
While speaking to CaughtOffside, the Italian transfer expert said: “Bournemouth players are so often the most discussed names on the market – in recent days we’ve heard a lot about what the future could hold for them this summer,”
“For sure the most interesting case will be the one of Dean Huijsen – as revealed more than two months ago, he has a release clause of £50m, and he’s going to leave Bournemouth in the summer.
“There is interest from Real Madrid – yes. There have been many rumours from Spain, but at the moment Real Madrid have still not decided whether they want to invest in a centre-back or not.
“That’s why, at the moment, Dean Huijsen is leaning towards a move internally, in the Premier League. He’s expected to continue in the Premier League, but at a different club. There is interest from several clubs…
“Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle – these four are surely in the race. Bayern have also been calling for weeks and weeks, but another Premier League club looks like being the most realistic destination.”
While things didn’t work out for Huijsen at Juventus, the move to Bournemouth has given him the opportunity to showcase his true potential. The 20-year-old defender made the move to England last summer and he managed to establish himself as a key figure in the Cherries’ first-team in no time.
He has featured in a total of 31 matches this season and has even contributed towards three goals. Dean Huijsen has been a rock at the back for Bournemouth. He has shown maturity beyond his age. His tactical intelligence and aerial dominance, combined with immense potential, have made him a sought-after talent for some of the biggest clubs in world football.
Romano has suggested his departure from Bournemouth is almost certain and he will be available for £50 million, thanks to a release clause in his contract. While Real Madrid have been linked with him, they haven’t made a decision on whether to go after a new centre-back this summer.
Premier League leading the race for Dean Huijsen
Huijsen is all set to continue in the Premier League, where Chelsea and Liverpool are both after his signature. While there are other top clubs who want him, another report from Fichajes has suggested the London and the Merseyside clubs are front-runners for his signature.
The report even suggested that Los Blancos have taken a backseat in the race for his signature. They will not make a move for Dean Huijsen because of the high cost of signing the 20-year-old defender.
Meanwhile, Liverpool and Chelsea both have the financial strength to pull off the transfer. Arne Slot is keen on adding the Spanish international to his squad as he sees him as an ideal long-term replacement for skipper Virgil van Dijk who has just penned a new two-year deal.
The Blues also want to add more quality to their backline amidst uncertainly around a few of their first-team defenders. Huijsen is an ideal fit for their project that revolves around signing the best young stars from across the globe. With the Premier League giants front-runners for his signature, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
