Liverpool told to pay €100 million to sign Marcus Thuram
Arne Slot’s Liverpool will have to break the bank and fork out €100 million to sign Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram.
According to a report from Fichajes, Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Marcus Thuram as they look to reinforce their attack ahead of next season. But Inter Milan won’t let him leave on the cheap, having set a €100 million price tag.
Thuram made a name for himself while playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach. He ended up leaving the Bundesliga club in the summer of 2023 after running down his contract. While there was no shortage of interest in him, the 27-year-old French striker ended up joining Inter Milan for free.
The Frenchman managed to establish himself as a key figure in the team in no time, and he has been doing wonders for them over the last two season. Marcus Thuram has featured in a total of 44 matches this season, and he has contributed towards 26 goals (17 goals, 9 assists). However, this week has seen him pick up a concerning injury.
While he still has three years left on his deal at Inter Milan, Liverpool are keen on securing his services ahead of next season. Arne Slot has done a sensational job in his first season in charge of the club as they are all set to clinch the Premier League title.
Things on the pitch have been great, but Slot has identified a few areas that need to be reinforced in the summer. The Reds will look to reshape their offensive unit, even though they have managed to secure the long-term future of Mohamed Salah.
Slot wants to add Thuram to his squad
Arne Slot wants to bring in a top-class striker who can take his team to the next level. He is not pleased with the output of Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, who have featured in that role this season. Multiple attackers could leave the club, making way for the signing of a proven goalscorer.
The Dutch manager has reportedly asked for the signing of Marcus Thuram as he considers the French striker to be an ideal fit for his system. The French international has a strong physical presence, an excellent off-the-ball work rate, and he is highly effective at linking up with those around him. He is a complete forward, exactly what Slot seeks.
The Reds have a long-standing interest in him. They were linked with him last summer as well and are all set to return for his signature ahead of next season. While they are pushing hard to sign him, Inter Milan will try their best to keep hold of him as he is a key part of Simone Inzaghi’s plans.
He is currently valued at around €80 million, but with three years left on his deal, the Serie A champions are not willing to let him leave for anything less than €100 million. As a result, it will be interesting to see if the Reds are willing to table that big a fee for the French striker.
