Tottenham have discussions over Kaua Santos move
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering making a move for 22-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt shot-stopper Kaua Santos.
According to a report by Sport BILD via Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur have held talks to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Brazilian goalkeeping sensation Kaua Santos following his impressive display in the Europa League quarter-final first leg against the North London club.
Santos came up the ranks at Flamengo before joining the Bundesliga outfit in the summer of 2023. He has gone from strength to strength over the last two seasons, and his performances have certainly attracted a lot of interest.
Tottenham are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 22-year-old shot-stopper. Their director of football, Johan Lange has already held talks with Eintracht Frankfurt regarding his availability following an impressive performance against them in the UEFA Europa League.
Tottenham are interested in Kaua Santos
While Lange could not manage to keep a clean sheet, he did put in quite a shift in goal with some quality saves. Tottenham chief Lange spoke to Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche regarding the Brazilian during the game.
Spurs were quick to make their interest in Kaua Santos known, but they will certainly not find it easy to sign the youngster as there are quite a few clubs that have their eyes set on him. While the North London club want to sign him, Eintracht Frankfurt have already secured his long-term future with a deal until 2030.
The Bundesliga club view the 22-year-old as part of their long-term plans and have slapped a hefty €60 million price tag on him to deter potential suitors. The player is in no rush to leave, and his entourage believes staying at the club is the best move for his development before a potential move in the future.
While Lange has already initiated talks on Tottenham’s behalf to get ahead of the competition, the club might be reluctant to spend heavily on a new goalkeeper at this point. Guglielmo Vicario’s ability to deal with set pieces has been questioned in the past, but he has largely proven to be a reliable presence between the sticks.
Additionally, the club invested in Antonin Kinsky as both a solid cover and a potential long-term successor. As a result, a new shot-stopper may not be a priority, unless they choose to cash in on Vicario. However, Tottenham have shown interest in a few goalkeepers lately, including Yahia Fofana.
