Manchester United unlikely to land Aaron Ramsdale, other destinations likelier
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are unlikely to sign former Arsenal shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale despite recent links.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Manchester United are unlikely to pursue a move for Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. While they have been linked with the former Arsenal goalkeeper in recent weeks, he appears more likely to join another club.
After failing down the pecking order at the North London club, Ramsdale joined the Saints last summer. The Englishman has featured in a total of 24 league games, but he has not been able to help them survive the drop.
Southampton are bottom of the Premier League table ,and their relegation has already been confirmed. With the club set to feature in the second division, the 26-year-old is expected to be on the move this summer.
When he joined the Saints, Aaron Ramsdale included a £30 million relegation clause in his contract, which will now facilitate his departure. With him all set to be available multiple top clubs have been linked with him.
Manchester United unlikely to sign Ramsdale
Manchester United are one of the clubs that are interested in the English goalkeeper as there is a lot of uncertainty around Andre Onana’s future following his inconsistent performances in goal. The 29-year-old was dropped from Ruben Amorim’s squad for the games against Newcastle following a disappointing display against Lyon in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg.
Onana has been linked with a move to the Middle East, and Manchester United could look to cash in on the £47.2 million (€55 million) 2023 summer signing. Aaron Ramsdale could prove to be an ideal replacement.
While Manchester United have been linked with the Englishman, the Red Devils have not made a move so far and the report suggests he is far more likely to join another club. Leeds United, who are looking to secure a return to the top flight have identified him as an option to be their number one going forward, with Illan Meslier not living up to expectations.
The Whites are already pushing hard and there are other top clubs from across Europe who are ready to secure his services. With Manchester United unlikely to sign Ramsdale, it will be interesting to see if they continue to back Onana or look at other targets.
