Manchester United ponder re-signing Vanja Milinkovic-Savic

Manchester United are reportedly mulling over re-signing 28-year-old Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic from Serie A club Torino in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by La Stampa, as relayed by Cuore Toro, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are combing the market for a shot-stopper heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Torino star. Meanwhile, the Serie A club will demand around €20 million to part ways with the Serb.

Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and his career so far

Vanja Milinkovic-Savic has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A since joining Torino from Lechia Gdansk in July 2017. A native of Ourense, the Serbian goalkeeper spent most of his formative years in Austria and Serbia but graduated from the youth division at Manchester United.

However, the 28-year-old could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Manchester United due to work permit issues. Meanwhile, Milinkovic-Savic did not hit the ground running at Torino, embarking on multiple loan spells before establishing a foothold in the senior setup at the Serie A club.

The Serb has turned out over 150 times thus far for Torino while keeping 51 clean sheets and conceding 155 goals. Meanwhile, Milinkovic-Savic’s progress at the Serie A club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the player, with Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Old Trafford return on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Vanja Milinkovic-Savic makes sense. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Andre Onana’s long-term future. The Cameroonian international has seen the rumour mill link him with a move away from Manchester United, with Saudi Pro League clubs showing interest in him.

Meanwhile, several candidates, including Mike Maignan, have emerged on Manchester United’s radar. However, Milinkovic-Savic is also a viable target, considering his improving performance and age profile. The 28-year-old Serb will not cost a bomb, with Torino demanding around €20 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window.

The Serie A club’s asking price makes Milinkovic-Savic an appealing target for Manchester United. However, it will not be surprising to see other bigwigs competing with the Red Devils, with recent reports linking the Serbian international with Chelsea.
