Predicted Real Madrid lineup against Arsenal: Vinicius, Modric to return; Valverde at right-back
Luka Modric and Vinicius Junior will return to the Real Madrid starting lineup against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg on Wednesday.
Real Madrid will aim to overcome a sizeable first-leg deficit and qualify for the UEFA Champions League semi-final when they host Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabeu for the quarter-final second leg on Wednesday night. Carlo Ancelotti has greeted a mixed bag of updates on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Aurelien Tchouameni is available after serving a suspension in the first leg. In addition, David Alaba is fit and available to take on Arsenal, with Ancelotti including him in the matchday squad. However, Eduardo Camavinga will not feature on Wednesday after seeing red in last week’s clash.
In addition, Andriy Lunin and Ferland Mendy remain on the sidelines, with Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao being long-term absentees. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti discussed whether he has the resources to beat Arsenal on Wednesday.
The Real Madrid manager said, “Real Madrid has all the resources we need to turn this tie around. We have the quality, commitment, the experience of many players and we have the fans. We have the resources, we just have to get the best out of each player. In previous years they didn’t say we played spectacular football either, which may be true. More than just spectacular, we want to play effective football.”
Ancelotti also spoke about Kylian Mbappe’s mindset after his horrendous challenge in La Liga against Deportivo Alaves this past weekend. He said, “He was hurt and disappointed by what happened in Vitoria. He trained very well yesterday. He’s very motivated and we obviously need him. He has to score goals. He has scored a lot this season, but tomorrow we need them more than ever.”
Thibaut Courtois will take his spot between the sticks, with Real Madrid lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Arsenal on Wednesday. The backline should feature Federico Valverde, Raul Asencio, Antonio Rudiger, and David Alaba.
As for the midfield unit, Luka Modric should pair up with the returning Aurelien Tchouameni in the double pivot. Jude Bellingham will reprise the no. 10 role, with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo being the two wide attackers. Finally, Kylian Mbappe will lead the line for the home side against Arsenal on Wednesday.
Predicted Real Madrid XI: Courtois; Valverde, Asencio, Rudiger, Alaba; Tchouameni, Modric; Rodrygo, Bellingham, Vinicius; Mbappe
