Predicted Arsenal lineup against Real Madrid: Partey fit to start; Gunners unchanged
Arsenal are set to face Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final, with Mikel Arteta set to name an unchanged lineup.
Arsenal have a huge task at the Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final, as they come to the Spanish capital with a 3-0 lead from the reverse leg. Mikel Arteta has all his important players likely to be available, and he could name an unchanged lineup from last week.
During his pre-match press conference, Arteta was asked about the overall game and what it would take for Arsenal to win it. He also provided key injury updates on the likes of Thomas Partey and Ben White, as the Gunners boss looked ahead to the game.
Partey went down injured in the draw with Brentford at the weekend, and Arteta stated ‘he felt something’ post-match. Ben White was absent altogether on Saturday, although he was present in the most recent training session, as Arteta provided an update on the duo.
Arteta said, “The positive one is Ben White, he managed to train with us today, so he will be in the squad. [Thomas Partey] is available, he had a niggle in the game, that’s why he had to come off, but he felt good after the last few days, so he’s fine. And Jorgi unfortunately, is not here after the incident over the weekend, he hasn’t recovered so our thoughts are with him.”
In terms of the team selection, Arteta is expected to name an unchanged lineup from the first leg, although there will be many alterations from the Brentford clash. Jurrien Timber and Myles Lewis-Skelly are expected to feature in their full-back roles, with William Saliba and Jakub Kiwior in central defence.
Partey’s fitness is a big boost for Arsenal as he will take his position in central midfield instead of the right-back role he played at the weekend. Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice will be on either side of the Ghanaian international.
Bukayo Saka will start on the right side of the attack, with Gabriel Martinelli retaining his place on the left wing. Mikel Merino will lead the line for the away side, with Leandro Trossard on the bench alongside Raheem Sterling, who has returned from a suspension that saw him miss the Emirates clash.
Predicted Arsenal XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Saka, Merino, Martinelli
