Hugo Ekitike could stay at Eintracht Frankfurt this summer

Arsenal and Liverpool have received a massive blow in their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt’s attacking sensation, Hugo Ekitike.

Hugo Ekitike’s impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed. The young French striker finds himself on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs in the world. Arsenal and Liverpool are two English clubs who are interested in his services.

Hugo Ekitike to continue at Eintracht Frankfurt?

But according to Graeme Bailey via TBR Football, the Premier League giants have received a setback in their pursuit, as Hugo Ekitike could choose to continue at Eintracht Frankfurt for another season.

While speaking to TBR Football, Bailey said, “When Berta came in, obviously they were looking at the (striker) situation and he’s one of the newer names on the list who’s been producing good reports along with the likes of (Victor) Osimhen and (Benjamin) Sesko.

“But Ekitike is one who’s attracted a lot of interest. From Frankfurt’s point of view, they think they’re going to qualify for the Champions League and don’t think they’ll sell both Hugos (Larsson and Ekiteke).

“It wouldn’t shock me if Ekitike stayed for another season, but it depends on Premier League interest. Newcastle could go for him if they lose Isak. If you remember, Newcastle were the first Premier League club to move for Ekitike.”

“Is he top of anyone’s list? He’s not top of Liverpool’s list, Arsenal like him a lot but he won’t be cheap. Let’s see where Frankfurt finish, they aren’t desperate to sell him this season.”

Arsenal & Liverpool’s interest in the 22-year-old

Arsenal will prioritise signing a new striker this summer. Mikel Arteta has been on the lookout for a proven goal scorer for some time. He is not happy with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz’s output and wants a top striker to help his team take the next step.

While several names are on their wishlist, Hugo Ekitike has recently emerged as a fresh target, with new chief Andrea Berta keen on securing the best possible number nine for the squad. The French youth international has 21 goals and nine assists in his 42 outings. He is among the best young strikers and could be a perfect fit for the North London club.

Their scouts were recently spotted in the stands of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch the 22-year-old in action in the Europa League. He put in an impressive shift and even bagged a goal on the night.

Apart from Areta’s team, even Liverpool seem interested in his signature. While managing to extend Mohamed Salah’s contract is a massive boost for them, they will still be in the market for more firepower. Arne Slot wants to bring in a new striker, and with Darwin Nunez’s future uncertain, Ekitike could be a great option for them.

But he is not at the top of their list. As far as Arsenal are concerned, the financial side of things could complicate a potential transfer, as Frankfurt value the Frenchman at £87 million. More importantly, they are in no rush to cash in on him, having sold Omar Marmoush to Manchester City in the winter. Since they will most likely have Champions League football for next season, they could afford to have Ekitike in their ranks for another season.

Despite interest from the Premier League, the 22-year-old could choose to continue at the German club as he eyes a place on the French national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He needs regular game time to secure a spot at the global event, and a move to England might put that at risk.
