Aston Villa keen on Marc Casado and Andreas Christensen

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Barcelona duo Marc Casado and Andreas Christensen as they might get an opening on those stars.

According to Fichajes, Aston Villa are eager to explore a move for Barcelona’s defensive-minded duo Marc Casado and Andreas Christensen. The Catalans could consider the futures of those two players ahead of the summer, as Villa director Monchi is reportedly working discreetly to get those deals done.

Marc Casado emerged from the shadows this season as a key player for Barcelona in Hansi Flick’s system. While his performances have dropped of late, and a recent injury has prevented him from playing the last few games, one cannot argue his impact on that team that was missing Marc Bernal and Frenkie De Jong for large periods.

The word from Catalunya is that Casado is not overly rated at the club, with Flick considering strengthening his midfield ahead of the summer. Moreover, the return of Bernal could have an impact on Casado’s future, which could potentially open the door for Barcelona to make a big sale.

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Casado as well as defender Andreas Christensen ahead of the summer. Director Monchi has been reportedly working discreetly in the background to get ahead of the possible competition and find a way to get those deals done for the defensive-minded duo.

As for Casado, Aston Villa are not alone in the chase as the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea could be interested if Barcelona make their intentions on the midfielder known. Villa are also exploring the idea of a double deal as Unai Emery reportedly wants Christensen alongside Casado in the summer.

Can Aston Villa sign the Barcelona duo?

The chances are open in this pursuit, although much will depend on what Barcelona will demand, particularly for Casado. As for Christensen, he’s had an injury-ravaged season, playing only once in La Liga all season which was the very first game of the campaign. Barcelona are reportedly demanding €20 million for the Danish defender, as a sale of that size could help them financially given the center-back arrived on a free transfer.

The chances of Christensen leaving the club are much higher than Barcelona sanctioning a deal for Casado. The young midfielder will ideally lean towards staying put with the club, and was he to leave, there will be bigger clubs than Aston Villa in the mix. Yet, it remains to be seen whether Monchi is capable of pulling off miracles once again and bringing the defensive-minded duo to Villa Park.
