Tottenham make approach for Yusuf Akcicek
Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 19-year-old Turkish defensive sensation Yusuf Akcicek from Fenerbahce in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Turkish outlet Aspor, Yusuf Akcicek is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Fenerbahce whizkid. They have sounded out a move for the Turkish defensive sensation, with Manchester United also keen on signing him.
Yusuf Akcicek and his soaring stock
Yusuf Akcicek is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in Turkiye. A native of Istanbul, the Turk has spent his formative years thus far in his homeland, starting his youth career at Galatasaray before joining Fenerbahce in 2019. The youngster has come leaps and bounds in the last half a dozen years at Fenerbahce.
The 19-year-old progressed through the ranks at Fenerbahce before breaking into the first-team squad in the first half of the 2023/24 season. Since then, the highly-rated defender has made gradual progress in the senior setup at the Super Lig club, primarily securing regular game time in the UEFA Europa League this term.
The Turkish defensive sensation has turned out 22 times thus far for Fenerbahce while chipping in with two goals and one assist. Meanwhile, Akcicek’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Manchester United’s interest in Yusuf Akcicek is somewhat surprising. While Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans will likely leave the Red Devils in the summer transfer window, Noussair Mazraoui and Ayden Heaven have alleviated the need for a new centre-back. Nevertheless, Akcicek is a target for Manchester United.
As for Tottenham Hotspur, Kevin Danso will complete a permanent move to the North London club in the summer transfer window. However, Cristian Romero faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium amid his links with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. So, Akcicek is a viable target, with the Lilywhites submitting an enquiry over a move for the 19-year-old Turk.
Apart from Manchester United and Tottenham, Bayern Munich, LOSC Lille, and Marseille are also keen on signing Akcicek. However, with Tottenham making a move to land the Turkish defensive prospect, a transfer to the North London club might be on the cards.
