Manchester City considering Destiny Udogie swoop
Manchester City might look to sign 22-year-old Italian international Destiny Udogie from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Fabrizio Romano on Give Me Sport, Destiny Udogie is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are scouring the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old Tottenham Hotspur wide player has emerged as a target for the Citizens.
Destiny Udogie and his Tottenham spell so far
Destiny Udogie has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Udinese. A native of Verona, the youngster spent his formative years in Italy and graduated from the youth division at Hellas Verona. However, he rose in prominence during his spell with Udinese before Tottenham came calling.
The North London outfit initially signed the 22-year-old full-back on loan in August 2023 before completing a permanent move 12 months later. While Udogie has shown flashes of brilliance in the last three years, he has not been consistent enough to become an undisputed first-choice starter, especially this season.
The 11-cap Italian international has turned out over 50 times thus far for Tottenham while chipping in with two goals and four assists. Meanwhile, Udogie’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Manchester City will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Manchester City’s interest in Destiny Udogie is understandable. The Premier League champions are scouring the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window. They sold Sergio Gomez last summer, with Josko Gvardiol playing as a left-back for most of the 2024/25 campaign.
So, Manchester City must sign a left-back in the summer transfer window, with Andrea Cambiaso among the prospective targets for the club. However, Pep Guardiola wants the Citizens to keep their options open, with the 22-year-old Tottenham wide player emerging as a viable alternative to the Italian international.
However, it is unclear if Tottenham will be open to parting ways with Udogie in the summer transfer window. Manchester City will hope to turn the 11-cap Italian international’s head with an approach in the coming months.
