Predicted Barcelona lineup against Borussia Dortmund: Raphinha to return; Martinez in for Araujo
Raphinha and Inigo Martinez will return to the Barcelona starting lineup against Borussia Dortmund at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Wednesday.
Barcelona will be eager to inch closer to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals when they host Borussia Dortmund at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys for the quarter-final first leg on Wednesday night. Hansi Flick has no new issues to worry about ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Dani Olmo, Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen remain on the sidelines, with Bernal and ter Stegen being long-term absentees. However, the latter is closing in on returning after stepping up his recovery.
Flick has been sweating over Inigo Martinez’s fitness, but the veteran defender should be fit and available to take on Borussia Dortmund this week. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, the German tactician provided a fitness update on Raphinha, who has not started games since the international break.
The Barcelona manager said, “After the break, we have given him a little time to recover, but in training he is fantastic. He is very dynamic and ready for tomorrow’s game. It’s important to focus on the current things and we have to think about every game. We have to see how tired the players are, that’s important, or if we have to change positions.”
“I am happy because right now we have a lot of players who can cover several positions. We have this schedule, but it won’t make us suffer. Our goal is to win every single match. We can deal with it. We are very proud.”
Wojciech Szczesny will retain his spot between the sticks, with Barcelona lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Borussia Dortmund at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Wednesday night. The backline should feature Jules Kounde, Alejandro Balde, Pau Cubarsi, and Inigo Martinez, with the latter replacing Ronald Araujo.
As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Frenkie de Jong and Pedri in the double pivot. Ferran Torres will reprise the no. 10 role, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal being the two wide attackers as the former returns to the starting lineup. Finally, Robert Lewandowski will lead the line for the home side against Borussia Dortmund.
Predicted Barcelona XI: Szczesny; Kounde, Cubarsi, Martinez, Balde; de Jong, Pedri; Yamal, Ferran Torres, Raphinha; Lewandowski
