Liverpool set asking price for Harvey Elliott

Liverpool have set a huge asking price on disgruntled playmaker Harvey Elliott ahead of the summer amid Newcastle United’s interest.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool could effectively price out the likes of Newcastle United from the Harvey Elliott chase. The Reds are set to demand a significant price point between £40-50 million for the disgruntled playmaker, which could make the Magpies look away from the 22-year-old.

Harvey Elliott did have a serious injury at the start of the season, but since his return in November, the playmaker has not started a single game for Liverpool. All his two starts so far this term have come outside in other competitions, which has made him a bit frustrated.

Reports are stating Elliott is unhappy at Liverpool ahead of the summer. The fact that the 22-year-old will enter the final two years of his deal at the club makes it an opportunity to consider a change of scenario. While the Merseysiders consider him important and not thinking about a sale of the disgruntled playmaker; there’s always a price tag on every player.

In Enlliott’s case, Liverpool have set an asking price between £40-50 million, which will put off a lot of suitors for the disgruntled playmaker. Newcastle United are one of those, with some reports stating they were prepared to make an offer for Elliott around the summer.

The Magpies are embarking on a rebuild of sorts with their squad, and will not want to spend too much of their budget on a single player. Elliott represents a solid enough option for the long-term future, but for now, he’s not someone they will pay between £40-50 million in the upcoming window.

Newcastle United could move away from the Harvey Elliott chase

Newcastle United are interested in strengthening their squad, as Eddie Howe is anticipating a busy, yet smart window from the club. With the price tag placed on the Liverpool playmaker, the Magpies could view that as prohibitive, although that is not the first time the Reds have done that as their potential asking price for Jarell Quansah is also likely to see Newcastle United move on from the defensive target.

Newcastle United are not expected to have a huge budget for the summer, meaning they will have to manage their funds in the right way. Moreover, signing a player like Elliott will not be a priority for Howe, as there are other big objectives such as retaining their key stars as well as filling gaps in the squad that need strengthening. As for Elliott, the Magpies have plenty of options in his ilk currently in their squad.
