Announcement for new Barcelona signing ‘only a matter of time’
Barcelona have been linked with Jonathan Tah since last summer, when they made a last-minute move for the Germany international. Increasingly it looks as the Catalan capital will indeed be his destination this summer.
The 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and was the subject of a lengthy pursuit from Bayern Munich last summer too. They were said to be interested in Tah for many months after, with his agent Pini Zahavi declaring that ‘Bayern remain a possibility for this summer’. However more recently, Bayern Sporting Director Christoph Freund explained that Tah was not in their minds at the moment.

That coincides with reports that Tah has decided he wants to sign for Barcelona. Reportedly the two parties do not have an agreement yet, but have been in talks. Now German transfer insider Christian Falk has explained to The Daily Briefing that there is no chance of Tah remaining at Leverkusen, having informed them that he will be departing.
Neither will Bayern make him an offer, according to Falk, and he describes Tah’s move to Barcelona as ‘only a matter of time’.

This does clash with comments from Barcelona’s Sporting Director Deco, who noted that with Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez all on the books next season, it would be ‘difficult’ for them to sign another central defender in the summer. However that has not dampened speculation that at least one of Garcia or Christensen will move on, and in particular, that Araujo could be set for a big sale in the summer.
Certainly if Tah arrives, the exit of Araujo would be a logical consequence. Both will likely demand a starting role at this stage of their career, and it seems Pau Cubarsi is a fixture in the backline for the foreseeable.
