Juventus give credit: “PSV deserved to go through”
After Atalanta and AC Milan, Juventus also fell in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. According to Juve coach Thiago Motta, PSV deserved their 3-1 victory as a brilliant week for Dutch football continued.
Despite being under the microscope of the Italian media, Motta remained calm in the post-match press conference: “It is not true that PSV wanted it more than we did, but after our equaliser, they did press and were superior.”
“It was an open game, but we struggled. Did one of my players say we blew it? That’s not true. We tried, but we couldn’t be better than the opponent. PSV deserved to advance.”
Motta was heavily criticized in the Italian press, particularly for a somewhat stubborn statement. “I would do everything the same if I had another chance, I am convinced of that.”
Juventus are in a transitional phase under Motta.
